Ren Kaidou Centre for BL Studies (VRI–BL) promotes research on the complex, multi-layered boys love (BL) phenomenon that is largely overlooked by mainstream social sciences and humanities. The focus areas are: (1) transnational flows of Asian BL media, (2) Thai Y[aoi] media, and (3) fandom and fan culture.
Recently, Ren Kaidou Centre has launched The Quantitative Asian BL Studies Project. A Task Force on BL studies has been formed to collect quantifiable data on a variety of aspects of BL media in Asia.
